Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the English with John website and services (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Accounts

• You must provide accurate information and keep your account secure.
• Sign‑in is via email link or Google. You are responsible for activity under your account.

2. Scheduling & Calendar Connections

• Connecting Google Calendar is optional. If you connect, we use the scopes you approve to read free/busy information and create/update lesson events you choose on the calendar you select.
• Use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

3. Content & Recordings

• You may upload lesson materials. You retain your rights to your content.
• By uploading, you grant us a limited license to store and display your content to you (and, where applicable, your teacher) for the purpose of the Service.
• Recording features are user‑initiated only. Do not upload content you do not have permission to share.

4. Acceptable Use

• No illegal, infringing, or harmful activity.
• No attempts to disrupt or reverse‑engineer the Service.
• Respect others’ privacy and intellectual property.

5. Payments

Payments for lessons may be handled through third‑party platforms (e.g., tutoring marketplaces). Their terms and privacy policies apply to those transactions. We do not store your payment card details.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including text, design, and code, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by law. These Terms do not grant you any rights to use our trademarks or branding.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.

9. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims arising out of your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or if we are investigating suspected misconduct.

11. Governing Law

If you are based in the EEA/UK, these Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to conflict‑of‑laws rules. Otherwise, governing law will be the laws of your place of residence to the extent required by mandatory local law.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. If changes are material, we’ll post an updated version and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
